Coming together for their first collaborative project, Tokyo-based footwear label SUICOKE and Brighton-based mens and womenswear brand Story mfg. have produced a distinctly vibrant and soulful footwear style for the Fall/Winter ‘24 season; reworking the brand-new SUICOKE BOWER-TRab-ECO and PEPPER-TRab-ECO models.
Crafted sustainably, and with a biodegradable Vibram ECOSTEP EVO outsole and 83% recycled 3M Thinsulate lining, the PEPPER and BOWER-ECO models are new to the SUICOKE Fall/Winter range - a cold-weather extension of the brand’s previously sandal- focused ECO range.
To mark the collaboration, Story mfg. have reproduced the style using their own fabrication - a check fabric developed by Story mfg. over a year ago; initially to make hand towels and tea towels.
Hand dyed and woven in Thailand, the fabric mixes three gauges of hand-spun yarn, to create a hyper-textured fabric that utilises both naturally dyed and naturally coloured cotton. In Story mfg.’s own words:
“A year after development, we crafted a jacket using this fabric, and knew immediately that it would make a great pair of shoes”.
To finish the footwear, Story mfg. have applied their own GOTS-dyed indigo beads to the lacing systems of the styles. Corozo - sourced from the seed of the Tagua palm tree and known as vegan ivory - is a great natural alternative in crafting buttons and beads, and is featured in many of Story mfg.’s products, and serve as a continuation of the dedication to craftsmanship that goes into both Story mfg. and SUICOKE products.
